Bill Callahan, born in Silver Spring, Maryland. Callahan pioneered the lo-figenre of underground rock, with homemade tape-albums recorded on four track tape recorders. Later he signed a record contract with the label drag city. Callahan started out as a highly experimentalartist, utilizing sub-standard instruments and recording equipment. His reason for using the lo-fi approach was not so much an aesthetic choice, rather it came from his lack of knowledge of recording studios, and fear of giving up control to professional engineers.

Saving all your money for fame
Giving everything, giving everything
You hate ones face
And hope that others will love the other
So many shadows under my eyes
Hiding me in the shadows
You hate ones face
And hope that others will love the other
Saving all your money for fame
Giving away everything
You buy fame with
Confederate bills and pinball slugs
You hate ones face
And that hope others will love the other
